Anthony Yeung, MD, received the 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of New Mexico.
The award recognizes alumni who have made significant contributions to society and honored the UNM School of Medicine legacy. Dr. Yeung developed a minimally invasive spine surgical technique, the Yeung Endoscopic Spine System, in the 1990s and founded his medical practice — Desert Institute for Spine Care. The outpatient spine procedures are performed at Squaw Peak Surgical Facility and Dr. Yeung is at the forefront of training and utilizing this technology.
He was named a "Health Care Hero" by the Phoenix Business Journal and served as president of the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgeons. He's also the executive director of the Intradiscal Therapy Society.
Last Year Dr. Yeung and his wife donated $2.5 million to create the Dr. Anthony T. and Eileen K. Yeung Endoscopic Spine Center at UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center.
