The Orthopedic Institute in Sioux Falls, S.D., has adopted a new treatment for spinal stenosis, the coflex Interlaminar Stabilization System, according to an Argus Leader report. The device, from developer Paradigm Spine, is an alternative to traditional spinal fusion surgeries. The coflex implant is a minimally invasive way to preserve the spine's motion, rather than using pedicle screws and bone graft that reduce spine motion.
Most patients can stand and walk the same day as surgery and can get back to daily activities in four to six weeks, rather than the months spinal fusions require to heal, according to the report.
