Invibio's metal-free orthopedic trauma solution — 5 key notes

Spinal Tech

Invibio's new metal-free solution for orthopedic trauma patients could have an impact on the United States and European markets.

Here are five things to know about the PEEK-OPTIMA Ultra Reinforced:

1. The technology is a polymer-based anatomic device designed for patients with a poor prognosis and at high risk.

2. There is improved visibility of the fracture during surgery and the technology allows surgeons to assess reduction and alignment.

3. A survey shows more than 80 percent of surgeons can identify poor fracture alignment with PEEK-OPTIMA Ultra Reinforced, as opposed to less than 30 percent when using metals.

4. Patients now have more comorbidities, such as obesity, diabetes and osteoporosis. There is also a longer life expectancy, meaning potentially more patients will need orthopedic trauma care.

5. The technology combines the PEEK-OPTIMA Natural polymers with additional strength from continuous carbon fibre. The material can have mechanical strength similar to metallic plates and has 50-times greater resistance to fatigue as well as an extended implant life.
