Medtronic CEO Omar Ishrak among "most-liked" CEOs — 5 things to know

Medtronic Chairman and CEO Omar Ishrak is ranked among the most well-liked CEOs in the Untied States, according to a Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal report.

Mr. Ishrak was ranked number 24 on Glassdoor's study of executives based on employee approval. He had 91 percent of employees who reviewed the company on Glassdoor approving of his leadership performance. The highest-ranked CEO was Google's Larry Page, and Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg also made an appearance in the top five.

 

Here are five things to know about Mr. Ishrak:

 

1. He has been chairman and CEO of Medtronic since June 2011 and recently led the company through one of the largest medical device company mergers in history, when Medtronic acquired Covidien.

 

2. Mr. Ishrak's focus since joining the company is on therapy innovation, economic value and globalization. Last year the company began the acquisition of Ireland-based Covidien and plans to move headquarters there.

 

3. He previously served as president and CEO of GE Healthcare Systems, a $12 billion division of GE. He was with GE for 16 years, also serving as the officer and senior vice president of GE.

 

4. In addition to his top post at Medtronic, Mr. Ishrak is a member of the Asia Society Board of Trustees, which promotes mutual understanding and strengthens partnerships among people, leaders and institutions in the United States and Asia in a global context.

 

5. Mr. Ishrak grew up in Bangladesh and completed his doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of London, King's College.
