McGinley Orthopedics receives recognition for medical device — 3 highlights

Spinal Tech

Joseph C. McGinley, MD, PhD, a radiologist and president of McGinley Orthopedics in Casper, Wyo., is receiving recognition for his intellisense orthopedic drill, according to KCYW 13.

Here are three highlights:

1. The intellisense orthopedic drill has sensing technology that causes the drill to automatically stop before passing through the far side of the bone, and it can also indicate what screw size is needed.

2. Dr. McGinley came up with the idea for the drill when he spoke with an orthopedic surgeon who had witnessed a case where a screw that was too long caused damage to the patient.

3. Dr. McGinley earned his medical degree from The Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia and completed both his residency and fellowship at Stanford (Calif.) University.
