SI-Bone, a medical device company based in San Jose, Calif., announced its plans for the SI Joint Women's Health Initiative.
Here are four things to know:
1. The SI Joint Women's Health Initiative raises awareness about SI joint disorders in women and is made up of orthopedic spine surgeons, neurospine surgeons and various healthcare providers.
2. Studies show that the SI joint causes 15 percent to 30 percent of all lower back pain. Two-thirds of those suffering from SI joint disorders are women, as anatomic and physiologic gender differences make them more susceptible to the disorder.
3. The SI Joint Women's Health Initiative will officially launch at the upcoming American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons 2017 annual meeting in San Diego.
4. Si-Bone's iFuse Implant System, a triangular minimally invasive surgical device used for sacroiliac joint disorder-related fusions, was recently distributed and used successfully.
