OrthoSpace has begun enrolling patients in a study of its InSpace System.
Here are four things to know:
1. A biodegradable balloon spacer implanted arthroscopically, InSpace treats massive rotator cuff tears.
2. OrthoSpace hopes Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic and St. Joseph's Health Care in London, Ontario become the second and third Canadian study sites, respectively.
3. The prospective, single-blinded, multi-center, randomized, controlled study will enroll up to 184 patients in North America.
4. The InSpace System received the CE Mark in Europe and Israel and remains investigational in the U.S. and Canada.
Ottawa Hospital principal investigator Peter Lapner, MD, said, "As a hospital dedicated to supporting innovative therapies and improving patient care, we're looking forward to the continued enrollment of Canadian patients in this study."
