RTI Surgical's SImmetry System delivers positive 24-month results: 5 takeaways

Spinal Tech

A new study highlights two-year data of RTI Surgical's SImmetry Sacroiliac Joint Fusion System.

The study assessed 18 patients' long-term fusion and pain reduction. Researchers viewed CTs for evidence of fusion at 12 months and 24 months after SI joint fusion with decortication and bone grafting using the SImmetry Sacroiliac Joint Fusion System.

Researchers categorized fusion rates as:
• Solid: continuous bridging bone across the joint
• Possible: potential continuous bridging bone
• None: no bridging bone

The Open Orthopaedics Journal published the study.

Here five takeaways:

1. Seventeen patients, 94 percent, displayed bridging bone evidence at 24 months follow-up.

2. Of the 18 patients, 15 had solid fusion across the SI joint at 24 months.

3. Of patients presenting bridging bone, 15 showed fusion within the area of decortication.

4. Researchers also found a 73 percent decrease in average pain at 24-month follow-up.

5. The study had not procedure- or device-related serious adverse events.
