Medtronic & 2 other companies receive $33.1M research grant: 4 things to know

The Israeli government awarded Medtronic, GE Health and Change Healthcare $33.1 million in grants to continue researching in the country, according to Calcalist.

Here are four things to know:

1. Each company will receive between $5.5 million and $13.8 million in grants to expand their existing research and development centers in Israel while promoting digital health.

2. The grants are part of a six-year program with the Israeli Ministry of Economy and Israel Innovation Authority. In March, the government declared a five-year budget of $264 million toward digital health.

3. Change Healthcare received a $5.5 million grant. The company currently employs around 100 people at its Israel center.

4. Medtronic and GE Health received $13.8 million grants. Medtronic plans to use the grant to establish a development center for laparoscopic surgery visualization systems.
