Neurosurgeon completes 1st surgery using new MIS device: 4 things to know

Spinal Tech

The first clinical human case using Viseon's Voyant System for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery was completed.

Here are four things to know:

1. Neurosurgeon John Knightly, MD, performed the surgery at Overlook Medical Center, in Summit, N.J, where he serves as vice chair of neurosciences and medical director of the neurospine program.

2. The Voyant System utilizes a reusable controller to enable digital intraoperative manipulation of the surgical site image, which is shown on operating room display monitors.

3. By using the Voyant System, Dr. Knightly was able to adjust intraoperative depth of focus

4. Viseon earned FDA 510(k) clearance for the minimally invasive system in October 2018. It is available in the U.S., on a limited basis.
