Chief Scientific Officer of Aptinyx Joseph Moskal, PhD, will retire from his role with the company, effective Aug. 1.

Three things to know:

1. Dr. Moskal will focus on his academic work as a professor of biomedical engineering at Northwestern University in Chicago.

2. Previously he served as assistant professor and director of the neurosurgery labs at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, N.Y., and a staff fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.

3. Dr. Moskal will remain with Aptinyx in a senior advisory capacity.

"The work Joe began back in the 1980s has resulted in the remarkable discovery of compounds that we believe have immense potential in the treatment of numerous central nervous system disorders," said Norbert Riedel, PhD, president and CEO of Aptinyx. "We would not be where we are today, with three clinical-stage candidates in or near Phase 2 development, without the incredible dedication Joe has to this science."
