Medtronic tapped Sally Saba, MD, to serve as its inaugural chief inclusion and diversity officer, according to a Feb. 24 announcement.
Three highlights:
1. Effective March 2, Dr. Saba will be responsible for leading Medtronic's global inclusion and diversity strategy, as well as strengthening the company's culture and employment brand.
2. Dr. Saba will report to Chief Human Resources Officer Carol Surface with the goal of making sure Medtronic is well-positioned to attract and retain top talent. Medtronic employs more than 90,000 people worldwide.
3. Dr. Saba was previously vice president of equity, inclusion and diversity at Kaiser Permanente Health Plan and Hospitals in Oakland, Calif. There, she led major initiatives such as a supplier diversity program.
"My philosophy is to listen and learn, and bring people along to co-create," Dr. Saba said in the announcement of her new role. "When employees participate in shaping the future of who they want to be as a company, they are more engaged, and we collectively move faster. Equity, inclusion and diversity isn't one big thing you do — it's a million little things that we all do every day."
