Mayo Clinic's 3D-printed SpineBox aims to enhance spine surgery training

Spinal Tech

The 3D printing lab at Mayo Clinic's department of neurosurgery recently developed SpineBox, a 3D-printed simulator for education in spinal anatomy and pedicle screw placement, 3DPrint.com reports.

Three things to know:

1. The Rochester, Minn.-based health system has made the technology available to download for under $10 to enable orthopedic residents to continue spine surgical training during the COVID-19 pandemic.

2. Neurosurgery resident William Clifton, MD, developed SpineBox with Aaron Damon, chief scientific officer and cofounder of the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Neuroscience Laboratory at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.

3. SpineBox aims to provide medical organizations with an economical and practical training method for orthopedic residents focusing on spine.
