The FDA provided 510(k) clearance for Medacta's NextAR system for total knee replacements July 13.
Three things to know:
1. The orthopedic devicemaker designed NextAR with artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve preoperative planning.
2. The augmented reality system has glasses that enables surgeons to view the patient's anatomy in real-time, allowing them to navigate instruments and implants while looking at the patient instead of a screen.
3. Medacta plans to roll the technology out to spine, hip and shoulder surgeries.
