MaxView video assistance technology, designed by Viseon, aims to provide an improved education experience for spine surgeon trainers and trainees.
"MaxView has enabled me to let go of the knife and trust my fellows months earlier in their training," Gregory Mundis, MD, co-director of the spine fellowship program at Scripps Green Hospital and Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego, said in a Dec. 2 news release. "They get to see very early in their training how I perform the procedures and subsequently I am able to directly observe and direct their hands through MaxView video assistance."
The imaging system provides visualization through minimally invasive access unobstructed by instrument handles or the surgeon's hands. It projects a real-time image onto the OR monitor, allowing the team to observe the anatomy in high definition.
Viseon, an Irvine, Calif.-based medical device company, hopes the technology will accelerate the adoption of minimally invasive spine surgery techniques.
