Johnson & Johnson adds former US Army surgeon general to board

Medical device company Johnson & Johnson named Nadja West, MD, to its board of directors, according to a Dec. 3 announcement.

What you should know:

1. Dr. West is a retired lieutenant general of the U.S. Army. She served as the 44th U.S. Army surgeon general and commanding general of the U.S. Army Medical Command from 2015-19.

2. Dr. West's past titles also include joint staff surgeon, deputy chief of staff for support of the U.S. Army Medical Command and commanding general of the Europe Regional Medical Command.

3. Dr. West serves as a trustee and board member of several organizations. She is an independent director on the boards of steel producer Nucor Corp. and Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare (the parent of ASC subsidiary Addison, Texas-based United Surgical Partners International).
