UK-based spine company raises $3.1M in funding, NuVasive's 1st 2021 acquisition and more: 6 device company notes

Here are six updates on spine and orthopedic device companies over the past week:

1. NuVasive acquired Simplify Medical in a multimillion-dollar deal. NuVasive also shared its fourth-quarter financial report.

2. Devicemaker Aurora Spine on March 1 launched its Silo posterior sacroiliac joint fusion system. The company also received more than $350,000 of loan proceeds under the second round of the Paycheck Protection Program, as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.

3. Devicemaker Empirical Spine initiated the premarket approval process for use of the LimiFlex paraspinous tension band with a decompression for patients suffering from degenerative spondylolisthesis with lumbar spinal stenosis.

4. Bioventus settled billing fraud allegations for $3.6 million. More details here.

5. U.K.-based Axis Spine Technologies closed a $3.1 million (£2.2 million) funding round.

6. Ortho Regenerative Technologies welcomed Patrick O'Donnell, president and CEO of HD LifeSciences, to its board of directors.
