Here are five updates from spine and orthopedic device companies in the past week:

1. Devicemaker Aurora Spine said March 29 that its Zip interspinous fixation device for patients with degenerative disc disease received approval for a multicenter study.

2. Gregory Lucier will retire from NuVasive's board of directors May 18.

3. DJO invested in Insight Medical Systems, which plans to launch an augmented reality system for total joint replacements.

4. Augmedics, an augmented reality company, raised $36 million in series C funding.

5. Zimmer Biomet introduced the ZBEdge Connected Intelligence Suite for its digital and robotic technologies.
