Spine device company Surgalign Holdings entered into a strategic collaboration agreement with Inteneural Networks, a developer of artificial intelligence-based applications focused on autonomous analytics of central nervous system imaging.
The agreement provides Surgalign with access to Inteneural's technology to evaluate for potential integration into its digital surgery portfolio.
Inteneural's technology enables computers to autonomously segment and identify neural structures in medical images and rapidly deliver reference information using machine learning algorithms, the company said in a June 7 news release.
The algorithms have the potential to be used in cranial and neurosurgery for referencing tumor, aneurysm, stroke and neurovascular structures using MRI and CT technology.
"New developments in the application of AI in neurosurgery and medical imaging make it an attractive space to further expand," Surgalign CEO Terry Rich said. "Inteneural has developed machine learning-based analytics and fully autonomous brain anatomy segmentation capabilities that would be incredibly powerful when combined with neurosurgery."
