Surescripts network continues to see growth and expansion in the ePrescription field, according to its progress report.
Here are six statistics:
1. There was a 48 percent increase in the amount of ePrescriptions issued from 2014 to 2015. In 2015, there were 1.41 billion ePrescriptions issued.
2. Of the 1.41 billion, 12.81 million of those were for controlled substances. That number is up 667 percent from 2014.
3. Oregon, California, Nebraska, Texas, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Delaware, Massachusetts and Rhode Island are the top 10 states that use ePrescriptions to issue for controlled substances.
4. Surescripts continued to grow its directory of medical professionals too. In 2015, there were 1.07 million providers in its system.
5. ePrescriptions have found a particular niche in the antibiotic and antiviral market with over 2/3r of the United States issuing them higher than the national rate of usage. Family practices physicians followed by psychiatrists make up 32 and 21 percent of the ePrescription user base.
6. Between 28 and 31 percent of all paper prescriptions never make it to the pharmacy or are not picked up once patients see how much the prescription costs.
