74% percent of physicians say translational research time lag hurts patients

Practice Management

A recent survey conducted by VuMedi revealed 74 percent of physicians said patient outcomes are suffering in certain parts of the U.S. due to slow medical information dissemination.

The online medical video education network surveyed 500 practicing physicians.

Here are four things to know:

1. Almost all — 87 percent — of the surveyed physicians said they could provide better care if there was more immediate access to in-depth information on medical advancements.

2. The survey found 40 percent of physicians stated evidence-based medicine has drastically changed the way they introduce new treatments into their practice.

3. VuMedi's educational video platform intends to reduce the time it takes for medical breakthroughs to improve patient outcomes. According to a study in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, it takes an average of 17 years for research to translate to clinical practice.

4. Currently, 80 percent of cardiovascular physicians and orthopedic surgeons use VuMedi. The platform offers training resources, continuing medical education and opportunities to communicate with subject matter experts.
