Lattisha Bilbrew, MD, the first Black female orthopedic surgeon partner at Atlanta-based Resurgens Orthopaedics wrote a memoir about her experience in the profession.
Yes, I Am the Surgeon: Lessons on Perseverance in a World That Tells You No documents documents Dr. Bilbrew's life from England to the U.S. and her career path in orthopedics, according to a March 15 news release.
"I've become accustomed to being told, "No," but such negativity and denials have only ever fueled my fire," she said in the news release. "Spoiler alert: I can tell you from experience that it does not matter who tells you no or how many times they say it, so long as you don't say it to yourself."
Dr Bilbrew earned her medical degree at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta and completed her residency at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She specializes in hand, shoulder and elbow surgery.
