Sonny Gill, MD, an orthopedic spine surgeon at Vail, Colo.-based Steadman Clinic, has been appointed the head team physician for the U.S. men's and women's freestyle ski team. He will serve in the role through the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan, Italy.
Dr. Gill will become the fourth Steadman physician to currently serve a U.S. winter sports team. Tom Hackett, MD, is the lead physician for the U.S. snowboarding team, Randy Viola, MD, is the lead physician for the men's alpine ski team, and David Kuppersmith, MD, is the head internal medicine physician for the U.S. ski and snowboarding teams.
Dr. Gill will accompany the team to all domestic and international events, including the World Championships and the Olympics, according to an April 11 news release.
Dr. Gill has been involved with the U.S. freestyle ski team since 2004, according to an April 11 press release.
