AAOS to launch Fracture & Trauma Registry

Orthopedic

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons is launching a Fracture & Trauma Registry to collect data on five common fractures in the U.S.

The registry's modules will feature hip fracture, distal radius fracture, distal femur fracture, ankle fracture and proximal humerus fracture.

Registry-based data is becoming the standard for surgeons to demonstrate outcomes and standardized reporting for quality orthopedic care, Michael Gardner, MD, chair of the AAOS Fracture & Trauma Registry Steering Committee, said in a Sept. 28 news release.

The AAOS Registry Program includes the American Joint Replacement Registry, the Musculoskeletal Tumor Registry and the Shoulder & Elbow Registry, as well as the American Spine Registry in collaboration with the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

"Collecting and utilizing registry data has been pivotal for joint replacement, is on track for spine surgery, and will soon be for fractures," Dr. Gardner said.

The registry will start with a limited invitation in late 2020, with full enrollment set for spring 2021.
