Al Gross, MD, has raised more than $14 million in his race for the U.S. Senate, $9.1 million of which has been raised since July 1, Anchorage Daily News reports.
Running as an independent, the orthopedic surgeon secured the Democratic nomination for U.S. senator for Alaska in August. He received 74.9 percent of the vote.
Dr. Gross is vying for the seat held by Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan.
His campaign has accelerated over the past few months, running several commercials, mailers and digital ads, according to the news outlet.
Dr. Gross has pledged to address high healthcare costs in Alaska, balance Medicare by negotiating directly with the pharmaceutical industry to redirect funds from drug companies to providers and defend abortion rights.
