The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences on April 12 broke ground on an $85 million surgical facility in Little Rock.
UAMS Health Surgical Hospital, a 158,000-square-foot project, will be an extension of the UAMS Medical Center. Faculty and offices for UAMS' department of orthopedic surgery will be based at the new facility.
The building will include 12 operating rooms; 12 exam rooms dedicated to orthopedics and physical medicine and rehabilitation; eight exam rooms and two procedure suites for pain management; and 24 private rooms.
"UAMS is growing physically to meet the expanding volume of orthopaedic surgeries at UAMS Health," said Cam Patterson, MD, UAMS Health CEO and chancellor.
The hospital is expected to open by spring 2023.
