Orthopedic surgeon convicted of battery at hospital

An orthopedic surgeon was convicted of battery stemming from a 2020 incident at Hutchinson (Kan.) Regional Medical Center, The Hutchinson News reported April 28.

Christopher Kain, MD, on Oct. 13, 2020 was working as an attending emergency room physician and was trying to draw fluid from a patient's wound. A staffer and other nurses saw Dr. Kain's patient was uncomfortable and told him to stop.

The staffer tried to intervene when Dr. Kain pushed her out of the exam room. When she tried to return, he grabbed her and jerked her around, all while holding a syringe.

A six-person jury deliberated for about 90 minutes after a daylong trial. Sentencing wasn't immediately set.
