Louisville, Ky.-based UofL successfully performed its 1,000th joint replacement with Stryker's Mako robotic system in January, according to The Louisville Cardinal.

Three things to know:

1. The Mako system enables surgeons to preoperatively plan procedures with 3D imaging and assists with implant placement.

2. The procedures were performed on patients in the total joint replacement program at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

3. Orthopedic surgeons Arthur Malkani, MD, Logan Mast, MD, and Madhu Yakkanti, MD, performed most of the 1,000 joint replacements at the hospital.
