Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minn., has completed its first orthopedic surgery using a robotic arm, according to an Oct. 27 KEYC report.
Four things to know:
1. The practice recently acquired Stryker's Mako system for hip and knee replacements.
2. Five orthopedic surgeons have been trained to use the robot.
3. Mako is designed to protect soft tissue and ligaments from damage.
4. The practice has 17 orthopedic providers, including nine physicians, according to its website.
