Stryker's spine robot has been in development for years, and its launch is expected in the near future.
Here's what we know so far:
1. In 2022 Stryker CEO Kevin Lobo said in a third quarter earnings call that the company began developing Mako Spine, along with Mako Shoulder.
2. Mako Spine has had an evolving launch window. While leaders have expected a 2024 launch for a while, that window has shifted from mid-2024 to late 2024.
3. At launch the robot will focus on pedicle screw placement, Mr. Lobo said in a November 2023 earnings call. It will also incorporate upcoming technologies from the company.
4. The first cases with Mako Spine were completed in October 2024, two years after the robot was first announced. Those cases were one in conjunction with Stryker's Spine Guidance 5 software, Vice President of Investor Relations Jason Beach said in an earnings call.
