Jason Lowenstein, MD, of Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center performed the first surgery using Stryker's Mako Spine System.
Mako Spine is in limited release with Spine Guidance 5 software, according to a Dec. 2 news release. The robot leverages intraoperative CT scans and haptic guidance capabilities for surgeons.
The initial cases with the robot were done in October, Stryker Vice President of Investor Relations Jason Beach said in an Oct. 30 earnings call. Stryker is also planning to release its Mako Shoulder robot in the near future.
