Muncie-based Central Indiana Orthopedics has acquired its fifth Mako robot and surpassed 3,000 procedures using the technology, according to a Dec. 18 report from The Hamilton County Reporter.
Physicians use the robot for both hip and knee replacement procedures. It helps to improve efficiency, preserve tissue and save healthy bones, according to the report.
The robot enables CIO to meet the growing demand for hip and knee replacements due to osteoarthritis. CIO was the first orthopedic practice in the region to adopt Mako technology in 2016.
CIO’s surgeons now have access to five Mako robots, three owned by CIO and two by Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, where CIO's surgeons serve as the orthopedic team.
