The Orthopedic Clinic in Daytona Beach, Fla., has partnered with Johnson & Johnson MedTech to train international surgeons in the use of J&J's Velys robot.
Dominic Marino, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, successfully trained five Brazilian surgeons to operate the robotic-assisted device, according to a Nov. 15 press release.
The clinic is the only ASC in Volusia County that currently offers robotic-assisted total joint replacements.
The Velys robot provides surgeons with information and tools for more accurate and precise knee replacements.
Dr. Marino was chosen to train the surgeons due to his extensive experience with the robotic system. He has been with the clinic since August 2023, specializing in treating all conditions involving the hip and knees in adults and children.
The training consisted of one full day of observation in surgery in which surgeons gained a better understanding of the robotic technology.
The five Brazilian surgeons who attended the training include Marco Demange, MD, Marcelo Kubota, MD, Marcelo Ferrer, MD, Diogo Cals, MD, and Ricarda Cury, MD.
