Jeffrey Roh, MD, of Honolulu Spine Center, performed Hawaii's first surgery using the Cuvis spine robot and pedicle screws from Next Orthosurgical, according to a Nov. 8 news release.
Dr. Roh completed two spinal fusions as the debut cases. The robot leverages artificial intelligence and surgical planning tools. His patients were able to go home a few hours after surgery.
"The ability of the machine learning software to adapt to my surgical preferences as I perform more cases is truly remarkable," Dr. Roh said in the release. "Safe, accurate and reproducible screw placement is critically important in the outpatient setting, and this technology allows us to achieve that with greater confidence."
