Glen Ridge, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center added Mako's SmartRobotics system for joint replacements, according to an Aug. 24 news release.
Mountainside has performed robot-assisted surgeries for a decade, and the new addition will provide minimally invasive options for total hip, total knee and partial knee replacements. Mako SmartRobotics combines 3D CT-based planning, AccuStop haptic technology and data analytics for surgeries.
"The Mako robot is changing the way surgeons are performing joint replacements," orthopedic surgeon Thomas John, MD, said. "During surgery, the surgeon can validate that plan and make necessary adjustments while guiding the robotic-arm to perform that plan. It’s exciting to be able to offer this transformative technology in a community hospital."
