Smith+Nephew introduced its Cori digital tensioner for robotic knee replacements, the devicemaker said April 24.
The device helps surgeons measure ligament tension in the knee before cutting bone, according to a news release. This helps reduce variability when balancing the knee insurgery and makes planning more objective.
The Cori digital tensioner is the first device of its kind and automatically collects gap data at a specified force through full range of motion.
Bertrand Kaper, MD, performed the first commercial procedure with the Cori digital tensioner.
