Smith & Nephew announced its results for the first quarter ended April 3, 2010, which included $995 million in revenues, up 9 percent from $865 million in the first quarter of 2009, according to a Smith & Nephew news release.
Orthopedics revenue was $566 million, up 6 percent from $508 million in 2009. Orthopedic Reconstruction revenues grew by 7 percent, and the company's global hip franchise grew by 6 percent and global knees by 9 percent, according to the release.
Arthroscopy grew by 17 percent, driven by a strong performance in both the company's sports medicine repair and resection product ranges.
