OrthoPediatrics is a provider of anatomically appropriate implants for children suffering from orthopedic conditions and injuries.
Based in Warsaw, Ind., the company began in August 2006 and includes products for long bone deformity correction and trauma as well as spine and sports medicine conditions.
1. The company includes a wide array of products and recently released two new products — the Response Spine System and the OrthoPediatrics Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction System.
The Response Spine System is intended to treat spinal deformity and features unique set screw design for better fixation and easy insertion, low profile screws designed for pediatric indications and versatile snap-fit rod reduction/coupled derotation instruments.
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction System features Safe and anatomic drilling technique to help recreate the native ACL footprint and high technology implants made of PEEK and Titanium.
2. The company is growing consistently, and has negotiated a $37 million equity investment by its largest shareholder, Squadron Capital, according to a Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly report. The funds will enable OrthoPediatrics to expand its trauma and deformity correction business to include sports medicine and scoliosis care.
The investment will also enable the company to reduce and restructure debt and will support growth of its international sales.
3. OrthoPediatrics is committed to clinical education and is a significant sponsor of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, International Pediatric Orthopaedic Symposium, Scoliosis Research Society and International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques.
4. Mark Throdahl serves as the company's president and CEO. He is a former group president of Zimmer and has served as CEO of Consort Medical in London, England.
Peter F. Armstrong, MD, served as OrthoPediatrics' first, full-time CMO. He has previously served as chief of staff of Shriners Hospitals for Children-Salt Lake City (Utah), after which he was selected to serve as CMO of the 22 Shriners Hospitals.
5. The company is privately held and includes approximately 50 employees. The original business concept for OrthoPediatrics, which was conceived by Founder Nick Deeter in the 1980s, was to provide better splinting and bracing for orthopedic problems in children. The concept changed, however, to focus on different types of implantable orthopedic devices for children when the company was established in 2006.
Since its inception, the company has developed and received regulatory approval for 12 product systems.
