France-based neurosurgeon Dr. Michael Lefranc performed the 100th procedure with the Medtech ROSA Spines robotic spine surgery device.
Here are five key notes on the technology:
1. The ROSA Spine robotic-assistive device is designed for minimally invasive spine procedures.
2. Dr. Lefranc performed the 100th procedure at Amiens-Picardy University Hospital. Three other surgeons around the world use the technology include: Prof. Michael Winking in Germany; Dr. Juan Torres-Reveron in the United States and Dr. Carlos Botella in Spain.
3. The FDA cleared the ROSA spine system in January. Medtech obtained the CE Mark for ROSA Spine in 2014.
4. Dr. Torres-Reveron performed the first procedure with the ROSA technology in the United States at Premier Health Miami Valley Hospital. A philanthropic gift from the Robert H. Brethen Foundation made the procedure possible.
5. Medtech also has the ROSA Brain technology to provide guidance during brain surgeries.
