Dr. David Ruch performs 1st surgery using OsteoMATE arthrodesis implant — 4 key notes

Spinal Tech

Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Professor of orthopedic surgery David Ruch, MD, completed the first surgery using Arthrosurface's OsteoMATE arthrodesis implant.

Here are four things to know:

1. The implant is comprised of allograft bone and is provided pre-shaped, pre-drilled and sterile.

2. Its design is ideal for four corner fusion of the hand and Lisfranc arthrodesis of the foot.

3. Non-union in the fusion area is prevalent in up to 31 percent of cases using traditional metal implants.

4. Dr. Ruch noted the procedural steps were quick and straightforward and the instrumentation kit allowed for efficient preparation.

Arthrosurface Executive Chairman Joe Darling said, "We now are able to address a wider disease spectrum and offer more complete solutions for physicians caring for patients suffering from osteoarthritis of both the hand and wrist and the foot."
