Zyga Technologies obtained a patent updating the company's SImmetry Decorticator.
Here are five things to know:
1. The SImmetry Decorticator is designed for surgeons to prepare the sacroiliac joint for fusion by creating bleeding bone and space for autologous bone graft.
2. The minimally invasive SI joint procedure takes a lateral approach to avoid disrupting the ligaments around the SI joint.
3. A clinical trial released earlier this year showed two years after SI joint surgery with Decortication, 94 percent of patients reported bridging bone across the SI joint and 83 percent reported evidence of a solid fusion.
4. Zyga Technologies is now sponsoring the EVoluSIon Study, a prospective 40-site trial to evaluate the long term outcomes associated with its SImmetry Sacroiliac Joint Fusion. The trial will include 250 patients.
5. The US patent number is 9,662,124 and relates to the SImmetry Decorticator design.
