Orthopedic surgical navigation manufacturer OrthAlign passed a significant clinical milestone, with 75,000 navigation-assisted joint arthroplasty cases performed with OrthAlign technology.
Here are four things to know:
1. OrthAlign's handheld sensor-based technologies support a variety of indications including total knee replacement, partial knee replacement and total hip replacement.
2. The company's flagship application, KneeAlign for total knee replacement, provides both tibial and femoral intraoperative navigation in a palm-sized, single-use device. The KneeAlign application is designed to be compatible with all standard implant systems.
3. In early 2017, the company launched the UniAlign application, intended to enable seamless transitions between partial and total knee replacement interventions.
4. The firm also introduced HipAlign in 2017 for total hip replacement into limited market evaluation. The HipAlign application provides cup navigation and measures changes in leg length. It will be fully commercially available in 2018. David Mayman, MD, co-director of computer-assisted surgery at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery, said, "I'm impressed by the rate of innovation happening at the company right now. The clinical advantage, along with the economics of the single-use disposable model, makes OrthAlign well poised for continued growth."
