Smith & Nephew select Texas for $29M expansion project: 5 insights

Smith & Nephew chose its Fort Worth, Texas manufacturing plant as the location for a $29 million expansion project, according to the Dallas Business Journal.

Here are five insights:

1. Smith & Nephew estimates 100 new jobs will be created as a result. The Fort Worth location currently employs around 200 people.

2. Matt Sober, president of Smith & Nephew's global operations, described the project as an effort to secure the company's manufacturing process in the area.

3. Texas Enterprise Fund extended a $730,000 grant to Smith & Nephew to motive the medical device company to choose Fort Worth. Competing locations included Oklahoma, Tennessee and Hull, England.

4. Smith and Nephew's advanced wound management business is located at the Fort Worth plant. The team is filled with experts in wound care biotherapeutics.

5. Fort Worth Economic Development Department Director Robert Sturns noted the community's efforts and interests in biotech and medical innovation.
