RTI's SImmetry System delivers 65-71% reduction in joint motion: 3 takeaways

Spinal Tech

A new study published in The Spine Journal assessed the RTI Surgical's SImmetry Sacroiliac Joint Fusion System.

The SImmetry System is the sole minimally invasive surgery using proprietary decortication technology to assist with bone fusion.

The human cadaveric biomechanical study compared two minimally invasive techniques for placing primary and secondary threaded implants to stabilize the SI joint. Researchers also investigated the association of fixation and bone mineral density and how removing the secondary implant affected construct rigidity.

Here are three takeaways.

1. Researchers discovered the SImmetry implants offered a 65 percent to 71 percent reduction in joint motion using multiple implant configurations.

2. Following repeated loading, the SImmetry implants still delivered the same benefits.

3. Further, the study revealed immediate fixation evidence.

This study's data supports the ongoing EVoluSIon Clinical Study, which is assessing the SImmetry System's impact on SI joint fusion and pain reduction in up to 250 patients. Early data revealed a 54 percent reduction in SI joint pain at six months.
