Dr. Parker Babington performs 1st surgery with Spinal Resource's new pedicle screw system: 3 insights

Spinal Tech

Virginia Beach, Va.-based neurosurgeon Parker Babington, MD, successfully implanted the first Swedge Pedicle Screw System from Spinal Resources.

Here are three things to know.

1. The system features three different rod diameters which can be interchanged for use in one tulip and fastened with a one-step locking cap. According to Dr. Babington, the design enables surgeons to lock the tulip without the presence of a rod.

2. The Swedge Pedicle Screw System features a choice of:

  • Cobalt-chrome and titanium tulips,
  • Double lead and cortical cancellous threads,
  • Polyaxial, monoaxial, reduction, and iliac screws; and
  • Minimally invasive screw options.

3. The Swedge system is currently cleared for a 5.5 millimeter rod; 4.75 millimeter and 5.0 millimeter rods are pending FDA clearance.
