Arkansas hospital unveils robotic technology for total knee replacements – 4 notes

Spinal Tech

NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital, Jonesboro, Ark., has installed Smith & Nephew's Navio Robotic Surgery System for total knee replacements, reports Region 8 Newsdesk.

Four things to know:

1. The robot features proprietary robotics-assisted technology that integrates handheld robotics with a CT-free registration and patient-specific planning process.

2. It enables the surgeon to create a 3D model of the knee on the computer, which helps predict the procedure before making a cut on the bone.

3. Jason Brandt, MD, an orthopedic surgeon using the technology at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital said the robot helps eliminate variables such as implant size, stability and alignment.

4. NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital is the only orthopedic team in the state with the Navio system.
