Scientists from Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan created an EpiPen for spinal cord and brain injuries, reports Nature World News.
Three insights:
1. Swelling during spinal cord injuries can damage the spinal cord. Researchers are using nanoparticles to try and prevent damage and improve healing after injury.
2. In a recent study, researchers injected nanoparticles into mice and were able to reduce the severity of a spinal cord or brain injury, decrease paralysis and in some cases prevent it.
3. The nanoparticles demonstrated an ability to stop the blood-brain barrier from rupturing when an injury occurred, which prevents the reduction of movement below the injured area.
