DJO invested in Insight Medical Systems, which plans to launch an augmented reality system for total joint replacements.
Insight Medical Systems' flagship product, ARVIS, is the first AR system with proprietary hardware to assist in total joint replacements, according to a March 30 news release.
Through the strategic investment, Insight plans to leverage DJO's sales channels to launch ARVIS in the second half of the year. Insight's ARVIS will also be compatible with DJO's Empowr implants for the hip and knee.
Computer-assisted surgery technology is a growing market, and the shift of some procedures from hospitals to ASCs is expanding. However, costs and the large footprint of technology has been a roadblock for some ASCs.
