From two companies' acquisitions to a new interbody system's debut, here are six key updates from spine and device companies in the last week:

1. Spine device company Surgalign Holdings entered into a strategic collaboration agreement with Inteneural Networks, a developer of artificial intelligence-based applications focused on autonomous analytics of central nervous system imaging. 

2. Intelligent Implants' remote orthopedics platform received breakthrough designation by the FDA for use in lumbar spinal fusion patients.

3. DJO will acquire Switzerland-based medical technology company Mathys AG Bettlach, which focuses on joint replacements, synthetic bone grafts and sports medicine.

4. Spine device company Alphatec on June 7 welcomed the EOS Imaging team to its Carlsbad, Calif., facility.

5. Medtronic's patient-specific UNiD Rods have been cleared for use with the devicemaker's CD Horizon, Solera, Voyager and Infinity OCT spinal systems, which comprise rod, hooks, screws and interbody fusion devices.

6. Andrew Fabiano, MD, completed the first surgery with Icotec’s carbon fiber thoracolumbar vertebral body replacement cage in New York.
