Spinal implant manufacturer Zavation Medical Products has announced the first commercial implantation of its Z-Span two-screw anterior lumbar interbody fusion plating system.
The implantation was completed by St. Louis-based surgeon Chris Reeves, MD, according to a Jan. 9 press release.
The system is geared toward simplifying ALIF procedures. Its two-screw design has the equivalent bending strength of traditional four-screw ALIF plates, and it incorporates a built-in fixation feature that provides visualization for plate sizing and minimizes plate slippage during screw fixation.
"The low-profile design of this ALIF plate, with its rounded edges, mitigates tissue or vessel complications. Difficult exposures are commonplace in ALIF procedures, irrespective of the vascular surgeon's expertise. The plate's sleek design may forestall surgical complications from iliac vein compression," Dr. Reeves said in the release.
